Troubleshooting Google Drive Issues
Introduction: This article provides troubleshooting steps for common problems encountered when trying to access Google Drive. If you're unable to connect to Google Drive, follow the steps below.
Symptoms:
Cannot access Google Drive files or folders. (Y Drive)
Google Drive application not launching or syncing.
Error messages related to Google Drive connectivity.
Troubleshooting Steps:
Verify Google Drive Installation:
Ensure the Google Drive application is installed on the device by searching for the app through the Windows start menu/programs.
If not installed, download it from the official Google Drive website (link).
Make sure google drive is running:
Open the Google Drive application and have the user login with their RES email account.
Drive is running but not responding:
Google Drive may have crashed. Restart the user’s computer to resolve this issue or manually end all the Google Drive tasks in Task Manager.
Reinstall Google Drive:
If other steps fail, try uninstalling the application, restarting the computer, then reinstalling the Google Drive application.
Drive Deletion:
After a student is withdrawn or graduates, the Student account is suspended. 30 days following that the account and associated drive files are deleted. If the student would like drive files transferred to a personal drive they must let the school know prior to the 30 days.
Student Storage Restriction:
Student Chromebooks have a limited amount of storage tied to them. Upon reaching the threshold (5GBs) there may be issues consisting of not receiving emails or inability to save files. Periodically clear out drive of unwanted files to avoid this possibility.
